Cashmere Addict

CASHMERE WRAP CARDIGAN £195
Cotton capri trousers £75

This edition of Style Agenda is just a little bit personal. I am a cashmere addict.

The first time I felt cashmere I became a knitwear nerd and started slowly collecting - usually in sales. The investment certainly paid off, good quality cashmere in stylish shapes equals luxury that never looks forced. So I say - put your cash into cashmere!

Cashmere jumpers are the best a girl can have. The go-to, never-let-you-down, universal flatterer item.
Interestingly, the best styled cashmere is the piece that can take you to a breakfast meeting or to a cosy dinner. My Winser London Audrey sweater and coat, as well as a variety of cashmere, silk and cashmere shawls, perform for me day to night, in airports or supermarkets.

A cashmere tank top goes under suits. Cashmere cardigans in delicious colours (cashmere takes dye so well) top off a dozen sleeveless dresses. Loose, easy sweaters are never put away and are warm in winter and surprisingly wearable in summer too.

New yarns, weaves and stitches inspire me to add to my collection; so the Gossamer Wrap Cardigan in champagne marl is on my wish list. While I prefer to sit out most fashion passing whims and fancies, this seasons ribbed and cable sweaters are definitely best in cashmere. The visual impact is chunky but they are almost weightless. The country weekend will never be the same again.

Buying variations on a theme - and my theme is cashmere - is far from boring, it’s my core strategy for intelligent chic wardrobe building. Black is always right, cream and white super glamorous and wearing cashmere in the latest fashion colour is the only thing I need to keep with the fashion program.

Pure cashmere also lasts and lasts as Kim Winser attests, having met a young woman from New York who was left 50 cashmere sweaters by her mother as an heirloom. When I worked on magazines I visited British cashmere companies and was advised to wash my cashmere in the washing machine on the wool wash, because cashmere loves water and hates a shock, and the temperature in our machines is more accurate and constant than hand washing.
