WINSER TWEED JACKET

We are all thinking and writing about the holidays, the sales, the kids and weekending. But lots of us are office bound for many weeks over the Summer. How do you look good and stay cool in the boardroom?

This is not an idle thought, it is something I am asked about all the time. It is often hot and muggy outside and pretty frisky fresh in the air-con office. Well, number one, absolutely no black tights (hose) I am always amazed how many girls stick to them regardless of the date. Buy sheer tights (hose) or just sport bare legs, which are acceptable these days.

Well-cut crepe pants are my favourite, if our legs are not going to be on show. Crepe is cool and smarter than linen and looks dead smart with a crisp shirt, or silk blouse. Colour is always summery and it’s easy to stick to one’s tried and tested style - but do it in colour: brights or pales - your choice. Crepe and jersey is right for skirts too, it has a pretty fluid appeal and will work with top-quality tunic tops in the same family of fabrics.

I love these outrageously big necklaces and belts that are all the thing, and a dressed down top with some new costume jewellery is fun and summery. The Winser London shawl can be a permanent fixture in our handbags. The fine mix of silk and cashmere is as light as a feather. The Winser Blue and the Magenta both look great with Black, White and Midnight and give a hit of colour.

We should all have a cream jacket - they work with trousers and skirts and over a cool dress for a chic business like look. Which brings us to dresses. Sleeveless dresses even in bright or dark colours are always right at work. Again, I do recommend crepes and fine jerseys rather than cottons and linens. Then the dress will still look good at the end of the day. Teamed with a white jacket or mini coloured cardigan, some new sandals with a small heel….and goodbye ‘Glass Ceiling’.
