White is out in force and being worn by the fashion brigade, who are more usually associated with black. Nothing is rocking the FROW (front row) more than head to toe shades of bright or creamy whites. White is the colour of fresh starts and clean slates, of purity and light, of classic t-shirts and pristine sneakers. “It is a shining and affirmative thing,” wrote G.K. Chesterton, “as fierce as red, as definite as black.” As one season grudgingly makes way for another, look to white to brighten even the darkest of days, moods, wardrobes, and rooms. So, to get with the spring/summer vibe there’s no need to resort to an overload of print and embroidery, white on its own sings its own song. Granted, white can be stark, so by all means layer it up with creams. And this season, flat white sneakers or loafers and white bags complete the fashion picture. White does look, and indeed needs to look, expensive, spotlessly fresh and in the best quality fabrics. The look to aim for is super sophisticated rather than girly. Of course, I have a selection of suggestions from Winser this month. Two wonderful coats, one casual and the other more dressy: Cotton Milano hooded coat, £125 and the Crepe Jersey A line coat, £250. Two cotton cardigans: The Chevron Stripe and the Textured Cotton, both £79. I love the jean pant and the cotton roll neck jumper worn together. And for a smart, little white dress, the cotton Milano dress at £79, or the Crepe Jersey shift dress at £125 are perfect for your new white wardrobe.
