By June we expect Summer to be in full swing, even so, let’s seek a balance of contrasts. Mixing and matching disparate pieces, with various textures and colours for a smooth transition between the seasons. The first sign of longer days and milder temperatures permits the swift shedding of layers and don’t we just crave lighter fabrics and paler colours? A great time of fashion transition, but we still need to be in touch with real life. Days that start sunny can end in grey skies and only the foolish set out in tiny shorts and vest. At the same time, let’s see the back of un-relieved black - and those opaque tights!
I propose incorporating those wonderfully adaptable pieces to weave in with lighter high-Summer loves.
A light Mac/trench is the ideal summer coat. Black over a white cotton dress is a sharp style for travelling to and from work. A graceful dress that doubles as a skirt is a neat look for the young fashionista. The long skirt is such a hot trend, and teamed with a stripy T it’s a look for the King’s Road. Wear it for summer hols as a sun dress, yes this really does work! The lightest sweaters and shirts are right for June days, and office life still has a dress code, so we may not quite be baring all.
Winser London’s stretch poplin is great for now, throughout the Summer and on into September. Looking at the Autumn pre-fall collections, I see so many of this season’s looks continuing. Longer-length skirts, shift dresses, shorter trousers and culottes. Navy is still a leader but the caramels are coming to the fore. I certainly notice top coats and jackets in light wools (see the Milano collection). In the street style pictures girls are wearing these in slightly larger sizes than they need, teamed with tight slim pants. Just add a white T-shirt to any of the trans-seasonal clothes for a contemporary wardrobe.
