Aerin Lauder, granddaughter of the fabulous Esteé, is to the beauty business “to the manor born”. Aerin Lauder has spent her working life in the family business and there is no better ambassador: so chic, so elegant. Although able to wear any of the more extreme designers, surrounded by luxury, and with all the business and home support that is needed, her life in other respects is similar to our own: office, meetings, kids to school, and evening events, often work related. Her personal style is simple and streamlined; a sort of stealth chic. She wears classic colours, black, white and beige, and finishes her simple look with gold jewellery – as did her grandmother. She says her staples are silk blouses, fitted black pants, cashmere sweaters and always a trench or a blazer. Aerin is so inspiring; the all-American beauty, elegant and modern – she makes everything look effortless. Esteé Lauder understood lifestyle and was an amazing entrepreneur; Aerin is following in her footsteps. She is particularly inspired by the glamorous home and has written a book called Beauty at Home, with the proceeds going to a favourite charity. Often interviewed about her personal style, I remember reading that when asked if there was anything she could not have too many of she said she could never own too many cashmere scarves; a woman after my own heart. Like a typical New Yorker she is always busy and on the go and believes that to be beautiful and confident comfort is key. For travel, her style is lean and edited: jeans, cashmere and blazer – timeless essentials. Emulating Lauder’s style with quality classics is the epitome of understated elegance.
