In 2014 Angelina Jolie was presented with the Insignia of an Honorary Dame. Jolie received it from the Queen at Buckingham Palace; Jolie wore the chicest dove grey wool crepe suit, worn fashionably below the knee. The Queen looked elegant in dusty pink.
Earlier in the year Jolie and Pitt married privately in the South of France – she wore a simple white dress by Versace. Her humanitarian work runs parallel to her Hollywood career and bringing up her children. Jolie has been described by US Secretary of State, John Kerry as a fierce and fearless advocate and that her campaigning will be a lasting legacy. Our William Hague is pretty keen too.
From Goth to Glam from divorcee/or sexpot to saint and mother, the evolution has taken two decades and wasn’t fast or simple. In the 90s she was Hollywood’s wild child with her dark as a raven hair and body art. Studying her personal fashion style from the hundreds of on line images I was surprised to see how considered and consistent her fashion choices have been. Always dark long shiny hair, dressed up simply on occasion.
Elegant long dresses for the red carpet, some sexy but not overly so. Recently the gowns have been more covered up, but more twinkly. Sometimes jewels but often just pearls or large gold hoop earrings. For her work, as a Special Envoy of the UN she favours smart suits. She really nails the masculine meets feminine look with her many pant suits. For casual wear, airports etc she is a black jean, cashmere coat, ballet pump or boots kind of gal.
Apart from occasional colour for awards ceremonies her colour palette is almost always black, white and of course it is. I couldn’t find a picture where she had swerved into some strange outré haircut, trend or inappropriate outfit. Hmm – always interesting to review our own clothes choices, and isn’t that why we call these ladies Style Icons?
