Christy Turlington Burns Super model and girl next door. Turlington is in her mid-forties and she says of her own classic style, “I’m in my forties not fourteen”. Christy spends her time mostly being seen in a classic timeless style. She teams Breton T shirts with white jeans and favours blazers, plain colours and makes a twinset seem the height of modernity.
She has even received an award wearing the plainest black long shift dress. Her recent accessories have included some of my favourites too; a cashmere scarf, tortoiseshell sun glasses - Rayban I expect - and she wears Toms canvas shoes, so do I. The backbone of her outerwear wardrobe is a variety of pea coats and trench macs.
Turlington’s beautiful face is instantly familiar to us all, from her many Vogue covers, her work with Calvin Klein and her thirty years of gorgeous fashion spreads created with the world’s most famous photographers.
Her latest campaign is for the Calvin Klein fragrance Eternity and it is she says her favourite, she stars alongside her sexy husband Ed Burns. It is beautiful and one can’t help saying “that woman never ages”!
She has merged two disparate worlds, super model and philanthropy and with her foundation Every Mother Counts she campaigns all over the world for women’s health issues.
Now her family is her first priority, she is married to Edward Burns the filmmaker and has two children, a son and daughter. She is well known for her healthy lifestyle, always fitting in time for Yoga and meditation wherever she is. “I can kick, I can stretch” she says.
Years ago when I was on British Vogue I worked with Christy a couple of times and she was just one of the nicest models I have ever met. Love you, love your style.
