The traditional British summer season starts off with Chelsea Flower Show in May and giddily progresses until it wraps with Cowes Week in August.
The Season is the heart beat of the British Summer scene when we come out of hibernation for a few glorious months.
Royal Ascot and Wimbledon in June, Henley Regatta and the Polo in July, and any amount of weddings, luncheons and party going.
Whatever our itinerary, for all of us there is some element of formal dressing that needs to be catered for. There is still a dress code, even if it is one we impose upon ourselves.
The formula that worked for Jackie Kennedy, Grace of Monaco and indeed even for young Carla Bruni and our own Duchess of Cambridge revolves around smart dresses.
A dress and jacket or dress and coat are always a wise investment and I have been checking out some appropriate items for you to consider. As always, the simplest shapes are the strongest - this is not a moment to toy with the idea of edgy.
The Winser London lightweight Tweed Dress and Tweed Jacket can be worn at many events (as worn by our own Yasmin Le Bon). I like both the colour ways, Ivory and Midnight, and the sleeveless Tweed Dresses can be worn with the matching jacket or a contrasting one. It’s a nice idea to have the dress in one colour and buy both the jackets in Midnight and Ivory to ring the changes.
There is a Wrap Waist Jersey Dress in Ivory that is extremely chic. Two dresses with flared skirts in Optic White and darker options. Both are fluid and fashionable. If you want to go the separates route, a less formal outfit could be the Milano Blazer, with its chic brass buttons, teamed with the Miracle Skirt.
All you need now are smart but comfortable shoes, lots of stamina and maybe a hat.
I can’t wait for the first strawberries and cream.
Flared Jersey Dress £99
Miracle Dress £135
Milano Blazer £200
