This season there is a whiff of the sea in the colour palette and in the styling details in the fashion collections around the globe. With spring right around the corner there comes a time of the year when you start thinking about the sartorial season ahead and, in the interim, want to look great without spending hours deliberating at your closet door.
Blue continues to be a big story. The blues run from navy, in shades of midnight to dawn, to a focus on light smoky or lightly greyed tones of chambray. We all wear denim and it’s natural to want knitwear and blouses that work with the variety of denim washes.
There are many nautical touches again this year giving weight to the uniform trend.
Sailor stripes for sweaters remains a favourite, both with designers and customers, and there is nothing as fresh as a breezy striped sweater. Finer stripes and neat details like contrast edgings and tippings, as well as knitwear stitch details, are a subtler form of the seaside vibe.
Navy blue in all its shades is a go to for simple dresses, better for spring as an investment than more black. Winser Blue, reminiscent of the old blue Gitanes cigarette packet is one of the important brights going forward into summer. It mixes well with black and white, but I would avoid mixing it with red as being a bit too flag waving.
