Riviera Dressing - Ways to be cool on the beach

The famous can teach us valuable sartorial lessons about what to wear near water. Here are four beauties who show us the way to be cool on the beach this summer.

Sophia Loren. She often wore a 3/4 length swirly skirt with a tank top, wide belt and flat espadrilles; very alluring.  Winser Cotton Broderie Anglaise Full Skirt, £49 reduced in the sale from £125, in black, white and moonlight; or the fresh Cotton Poplin Skirt, also £49.

Audrey Hepburn was holiday perfect in Capri trousers and ballet pumps.  Cotton Twill Capri Trousers, £79, are in a lightweight cotton with stretch. They have just come back in stock and are now available in 5 colours: black, midnight navy, stone, white, and khaki.

Jane Birkin. Never underestimate how handy the little stripy dress is. Jane Birkin was often photographed in St Tropez in a dress similar to Winser’s Cotton Jersey Striped Dress at £69, reduced from £79.  Birkin accessorised her look with a simple basket, probably from a market.

Brigitte Bardot loved her short A-line skirts and stripy tops.  She belted hers with a brown leather belt worn low on the hips.  This Cotton Twill A-line skirt, £89, has some neat detailing with side and back pockets and its own matching belt with grosgrain striped detail; in midnight navy, stone, white and khaki.  Team with Cotton Striped T-shirt, £49, the perfect top.

Presuming you are heading for somewhere smart, this sexier approach is timeless.
