The Status Sweater

The refined sweater is the new top choice for smart daywear and for glamorous evenings.

For fashionistas in the know, the humble pullover is a thing of the past. Super new knits are the new objects of desire. We know how to spot the subtle changes in yarns and shapes. Knitwear is now designed with precision, shoulders fit, the proportion is just right to wear with pants. Necklines are sexy and flattering. The luxury element and detailing makes these fashion garments what we want to wear, not under a jacket but as a stand out on their own. The knit is now a considered, status buy, chunky Alpine cable knit sweaters, that in fact are weightless (Check out the Winser Aran Tunic Jumper)(£125) .

Cashmere that is delicately fine or super soft like the Winser Cable Cashmere Tunic (£295), and of course the Winser bestseller Audrey Cashmere Jumper (£195) . We can now wear our knits instead of coats and jackets. Then there are the delicate mixed yarns, with wool, cotton and silk as part of the mix. These tops have the glamour of a silk blouse, often created with small self patterns like intarsia, perhaps sporting a delicate button or exaggerated ribs. Sometimes sweaters and cardigans are backed in silk to add to the evening vibe. Or a fine sweater has a leather elbow patch to give it a witty country accent. These new sweaters move knitwear into evening when worn over a silk or lace dress or worn with slinky or leather skirts. This is an understated way to wear luxury. Add vibrant colour to the luxury yarns, and we have in half a dozen pieces to work for us all season. Younger customers too are investment buying fine knitwear as it is something that can’t be imitated on the high street,  but the kids can wear it with tiny skirts and thrift shop finds.
